Grammar Mistakes

how do online product reviews differ by their grammar mistakes?

Depends.

Our Assumption

Fake reviews have more grammar mistakes

Our Findings

This depends on the type of grammar mistake

Repetition

In terms of Repetition, fake reviewers make more repetitions than real reviewers. This can be that fake reviewers copy & paste others' reviews or their own sentences to complete a reviewing task. Within the fake reviews, those who didn’t recommend have higher repetitions than those who did. This may be caused by buyers who are VERY unsatisfied leave repetitive comments just to vent.

Capitalization

In terms of Capitalization, real reviewers who recommended the products are more likely to make this type of mistake than fake reviewers. This result may be that real reviewers who are dedicated to promoting the product are more likely to use Jargon and specialized terminologies and this increases the likelihood of capitalization mistakes.
